What Short-Term Storage Is
Short-term storage is a secure space to keep your belongings for a defined window of time, usually anything from a few days to a few months, while life sorts itself out around a house move. At Eipic we run short-term storage from our Cookstown yard, where you can choose between an indoor warehouse bay for household furniture, clothing and documents, or a heavy-duty steel container if you have a larger volume to keep dry and out of sight.
The point of short-term storage is flexibility. You decide the dates, we collect from your old address, store everything at the depot, and bring it back out when your new place is ready. You only pay for the time you actually need.

Common Reasons People Need Short-Term Storage

Most short-term storage bookings we take fall into one of five patterns, and almost all of them are tied to a move:
Moving dates that do not line up. Your sale completes on a Friday, your purchase completes the following Wednesday. Your furniture has to live somewhere in between.
Waiting for a new build or rental to be ready. Key handover slips by a fortnight, or your tenancy starts later than your previous one ended. Storage covers the gap.
Renovating before you move in. New kitchen, new flooring, fresh paint. It is far easier to do that work in an empty house, so the contents of the old one go into storage until the new one is finished.
Decluttering before a sale. Estate agents and home stagers ask you to thin out furniture so rooms look bigger in photographs. Storing the excess gets it out of the way without forcing you to sell or skip it.
A short-term gap in space. A baby on the way, a relative moving in, or a home office turning back into a bedroom. Sometimes you just need a few months of breathing room.
Short-Term Storage During a Move
Most of our storage customers are mid-move. The pattern is almost always the same: contracts exchange, completion dates drift apart, and suddenly there are three days, two weeks or a month of overlap to manage.
When that happens we run a fully serviced collection. The same Eipic crew that loads your house on completion day takes the load straight to our Cookstown depot and stores it indoors or in a secure container, depending on the volume. You do not have to organise a separate storage company, hire a van, or run a key from one party to another. Everything stays with one team, one job sheet and one fixed quote.
When your new home is ready, you tell us the date and we redeliver. Most of our short-term storage customers are out of storage and back in their own beds within four to six weeks.

Combine Short-Term Storage With Removals
Storage is much cheaper, and a lot less stressful, when it is booked alongside your removal rather than bolted on after the fact. Our removals and storage package puts the collection, the storage period and the redelivery on a single quote, with one crew handling all three legs.
Booking storage with your move means your belongings only get handled twice, once into the depot and once into your new home. Anything you book separately, with a different company, gets handled four times. Less handling means less risk of damage and less chance of a box going to the wrong room on redelivery day.
If you already know there is going to be a gap between your two completion dates, ask us about removals and storage as a single package when you request your quote. We will price it as one job, fix the rate before we start, and hold the slot for your redelivery date so you are not chasing availability later.
Is Short-Term Storage Right for You?
Short-term storage is the right call if any of the following apply to your move:
Your completion dates are more than 24 hours apart and you have nowhere obvious to put your furniture in between.
You are renovating the new property before you move in and want the rooms empty so the trades can work.
You are downsizing and need to part-store furniture while you decide what fits, what to sell and what to gift.
You are between rentals and need a clean, dry home for your belongings for a few weeks rather than asking favours of family.
You are decluttering for a sale and your agent has asked you to remove half the furniture from the house for viewings.
If you are looking for storage for a year or more, talk to us about long-term and business storage instead, where the per-week rate drops and you can pre-pay in monthly blocks.
Short Term Storage FAQs
Q: How long can I use short-term storage?

A: There is no minimum and no maximum on a short-term booking. Most customers store for two to six weeks while their dates align, but we have plenty who store for a long weekend and others who roll over month by month for half a year. You only pay for the time you use, and we will tell you upfront what each option costs.
Q: Is short-term storage useful during a house move?

A: Yes, and it is the most common reason customers book with us. If your completion dates do not line up, or your new place is not ready on the day you have to leave the old one, short-term storage bridges the gap. Your furniture goes from the old house, into our Cookstown depot, and back out to the new house when you call for it.

Q: Can storage be arranged with removals?

A: Yes. We price the removal, the storage period and the redelivery as one job on one quote. The same crew handles all three legs, so your belongings are only handled twice rather than four times, and you are not juggling two different suppliers across a stressful week.
Q: Can I store furniture temporarily?

A: Yes. Our indoor warehouse bays are clean, dry and suitable for sofas, beds, dining sets, wardrobes and the rest of an average household. For larger volumes we use steel 10ft and 20ft containers, which are wind and watertight and sit on hard standing at our Cookstown yard. We will recommend the right option once we know the size of your move.
Q: Do I need to pack everything into boxes before it goes into storage?

A: For a short-term booking we usually take furniture as it is and ask you to box up smaller items, books, kitchen contents and the like. If you would rather we handled the packing too, our packing and unpacking service rolls into the same quote.
Q: How quickly can I get my belongings back out of storage?

A: Once you give us a redelivery date we will confirm the slot and bring everything back out on the agreed day. As a guide, we ask for a few days notice for redelivery so we can plan the crew and the vehicle, but in a genuine emergency we will do our best to move quicker.
